Inside the BIC
Use PINE or MUTT (in lowercase please) when you login to login.bic.mni.mcgill.ca:
ssh login,bic.mni.mcgill.ca
pine
If you want to setup and configure your own mail user agent, the outgoing mail server is smtphost.bic.mni.mcgill.ca . There’s a good mail user agent tutorial at MUA How To.
Outside the BIC using IMAP
You must get an IMAP account (contact bicadmin AT bic.mni.mcgill.ca). Only pine and mutt are officially supported. If you’d like to use Outlook Entourage or whatever, read IMAP @ the BIC.
IMPORTANT NOTE : there are a few errors in the link above regarding the value of the outgoing SMTP server.
The correct outgoing SMTP server name for the BIC is smtphost.bic.mni.mcgill.ca , NOT mailhost.bic.mni.mcgill.ca .
